Food is a touchstone for me and my family. I am more than a little obsessed. Ask me about any trip I have ever taken and I can recount, down to the smallest detail, the best meal I had.
Christmas just isn't Christmas for me without the menu that came from my grandmother and I have been reproducing for all of my adult life: Standing rib roast, yorkshire pudding, asparagus, parsley buttered canned potatoes (I know...but they just taste right on Christmas!) and eggnog pudding with raspberry sauce.
When my son got bumped to first class last weekend on his way to Georgia, I was regaled with every thing he ate "Chicken Caesar salad...warm bread sticks, as many as I wanted!, fruit cup and a warm peanut-butter brownie".
Which got me thinking...tell me two things. What is the one dish you make when you know you want a slam-dunk (for the family, for guests, for a pot-luck)? And what is the one dish that you have to make for a special holiday to feel right. And please share the recipes!
